Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department is asking for the public's help in finding an attempt kidnap suspect.
On Monday, May 22, 2006, a student was walking north on Selby Avenue from Emerson Middle School, toward Ohio Avenue. He saw a Hispanic man exit the passenger side of a van that was parked along the curb.
When the victim walked past the van, the man grabbed his arm and pulled him toward the van. The victim managed to break free and run away. As the victim fled, he heard the suspect get into the van and yell "Go!Go!Go!." The van made a U-turn and drove southbound on Selby Ave.
The suspect is described as a 35 year-old Hispanic man with a shaved head, goatee and tattoo on the front of his neck, possibly of a dragon. He is 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs about 150 pounds. He was in a black van with tinted windows.
Anyone who sees a person matching the above description is asked to not approach the suspect and call 911 immediately. All other suspicious activities should be directed to West Los Angeles Community Police station at 310-575-8441, or Detective Macias at 310-444-1589, or 310-444-1520. On weekends and during off-hours, call the 24-our toll free number at 1-877-LAWFULL (1-877-529-3855).
I don't have news about this, but I think it could be very helpful if you had little tabs to specific neighborhoods within the blog.
A blog neighborhood watch. People coudl tab into the neighborhood they had witnessed a crime in that day and write about concerns etc...
for example:
a brentwood tab
a hollywood tab
a silverlake tab
a watts tab.....
It would be nice if we could follow and contribute that way. easier to navigate in and out of the neighborhoods and possibly help identify and solve problems more easily.

rim, this is an excellent idea!! I agree with you. This would help with visits and maybe crime witnessing/solving.

It doesnt matter if you have a specific tab for your area!! The crime will always be there and the department doesnt care about your concerns. They dont care about their employees concerns.. why would they care about yours. They want tickets and if it takes a long response to your call no matter what type of crime or call it is.. The reason is because officers are writing tickets.. because thats what puts money in your local captain's pocket and the chief's pocket. So with that good idea but not in this town as long as LAPD continues to run the department the way it does!!!

The response time has nothing to do with writing tickets. The majority of the patrol officers, training officers, and sr. lead officer want nothing more than to work hard and deter crime. Unfortunately a whole mess of factors conspires against them.
Did you know that on some shifts, there are as few as 4 patrol cars working in certain geographical areas? This is 4 police cars....8 officers...patroling areas as much as 5-20 miles wide. Add in a few motorcycle traffic cops that are there soley to write tickets. It is painfully obvious that LAPD is very understaffed and also chooses to deploy itself in a literally retarded manner.
The reasons are many...
-not enough officers
-too many officers sitting on their can while assigned to prestigious "specialized units"
-not enough criminals taken off the streets for long enough(felons illegally carrying guns regularly get time served sentences to as many as maybe 18 months) causing police to have to continually re-arrest the same continual and predatory criminals
-LAPD's own ineptitude in failing to videotape narcotics busts and gang injunction service causing lengthy and less effective prosecutions and numerous extra hours in court.
I truly sympathize with anyone who is a victim of a crime. The bottom line at this point, is LAPD cannot respond to all radio calls, and things like property crimes will remain a low priority as long as the people of this city continue to re-elect the same types of politicians who will not shift priorities to fund the department properly, and who also support the inept manner in which the department opperates.
