MEDIAN RESPONSE TIME IN MINUTES
City 7 minutes (up 1% from last week)
Some of you have inquired about police response time. Response time is measured between the time the call is created to the moment the assigned police unit arrives at the locaton. The above figure represents the response time to all urgent or life-threatening radio calls.
Once again, robbery stats have increased. They've increased in every report filed on this blog. From a level of 6,829 in 2005, they're now at 7,905 -- that's a 16 percent increase.
One has to wonder if the "relaxed" alarm standards are the reason for this rather disturbing rise.
How high will the robbery stats go before something is done? Taxpayer citizens are getting the short end of the stick here, and the criminals are getting a free ride.

Hey Mighty Quinn....
A robbery is the taking of a person's property by force or fear.
Your alarm rant pertains to burglaries, not robberies. So you should look at the burglary stats.
FYI.

Hey Jimmy Hoffa, for a dead guy, you don't know very much about alarm systems.
Alarm systems work for both burlaries AND robberies. Got it? If you're being robbed, most alarm systems have a silent alarm feature. You can trip your alarm without the robber knowing.
Now go back to sleeping with the fishes.

Hey Quinn, like James Hoffa said, “Robbery” is taking of one's property by force or fear, as defined in the Penal Code. I understand that there are robbery alarms located in homes, and businesses, but realistically, you have to understand that most robberies take place on the street. Anyways, I do agree with you on the "relaxed alarm" standards, but YOU have to understand that there are thousands of false alarm calls every single day, and the police Officers that work the city of LA have to respond to their radio calls by priority, i.e., if there is someone getting stabbed, or there is a violent crime in progress, that takes priority over an “alarm call.” If you want true change in response times, then we need more Officers in the city of LA, this is something that the chief of police is working on, and despite the challenges the LAPD is having recruiting QUALITY people. Why is there a recruiting challenge? There is a recruiting challenge because the City of LA is the most difficult and most challenging place to work as a police officer. Not because it's so busy, not because of the high crime rate, and not because of the endless disease infested people that officers work with on a daily basis, but because of the political setting in LA. No one supports the Officers that work in LA, everyone scrutinizes their every move, and everyone focus on only the negative issues in the LAPD. When was the last time that you saw something in the news about a positive job that a police officer did? But let me tell you, police officers in LA are saving lives, making amazing arrests, and really making a difference in each division in the city of LA. Take a look at the crime trends over the past 5 years, and you’ll notice a continued decline in crime. You see one jump in a specific category and you put the blame on “relaxed” alarm standard. You appear to be like everyone in LA… Jump all over the LAPD over one negative spot, and then ignore the rest of the crime stats. Take a look, overall crime; it happens to be down 10%! That’s incredible!! Believe me, do some research and you’ll find that the majority of robberies are not because the LAPD responds late to alarm calls, but because we have many criminals in the city of LA committing robberies in a variety of places, majority committed on the street.

Mr. Quinn, if there is a robbery in progress alarm call, Officers respond "code 3" to those types of radio calls. Translation, this means that the LAPD responds "lights and sirens," and believe me, they get there fast. If you're talking about typical motion sensor alarms for residences and businesses, then yes, I agree with GPK, in that officers do have to repond to those calls by priority, and yes, 99% off all motion sensor alarms are false alarms, however police officers must and do act as if everyone that they respond to is a real crime in progress. But to add to your comment on why officers respond late to Robbery alarm calls, they do not, as it happens to be a top priority call.
