There is an long-time saying: "An ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure...". Most of us are aware by now that in the fight against terrorism, the intent of destruction-minded individuals and groups, in their determination to intimidate and threaten to try to destroy our peace of mind and land, is not being met with passiveness or cowardice from our law enforcement agencies and communities. Although, the public being given information about possible pending terrorist threats, through the media, is not a negative thing-we must remember that common sense, vigilance and reporting suspicious activity, goes a long way towards the prevention of terrorist acts-instead of just "after-the-fact". The "shoe bomber" is one example of civilians acting to prevent a terrorist act from following through.Passengers on the airplane were able to PREVENT him from detonating a bomb. The terrorist who was caught and detained by law enforcement officials, on his way to detonate explosives at LAX-thus PREVENTING a major terrorist catastrophe was another. It has been my observation, that law enforcement has not been sleeping in regards to this issue of prevention, but we must also remember that, as a community, we must be aware of the intent of terrorists, be vigilant-but, not let their threats or acts induce feelings of paranoia, or fear, in a way that would weaken or break our human spirit...
