LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) in cooperation with the Los Angeles City Personnel Department continues its outreach and recruitment efforts in the GLBT community Saturday, November 10, 2024 at the Ahmanson Recruit Training Center, 5651 West Manchester Boulevard, Los Angeles 90045.

The informative recruitment event open to everyone interested in a career with the LAPD, will begin with an interactive panel discussion featuring several “out” members of the Los Angeles Department rank and file as well as members of the command staff speaking about life in the LAPD, career opportunities, test preparation and physical fitness.

Demonstrations begin at 10:15 a.m. featuring physical fitness performance requirements, self defense exhibition and the LAPD Candidate Assistance Program (CAP), an intense training course designed to help candidates get into shape for the riggers of the Academy and life on the job.  The GLBT Outreach and Hiring Seminar provide community members an opportunity to meet with members of the Police Department and learn about the challenges and rewards of working in law enforcement.

I never thought I'd see the day when the closet door opened wide enough for me to step through. Well, the clouds have parted and that day has come, along with a big fat rainbow, over the fabulous City of the Angeles! My tiara goes off to those enlightened, progressive thinking people who establish the hiring standards for LAPD. I am a migrant transgender lesbian who now feels that the dawning of a new age is unfolding before us.......kind of like the grand opening of a new musical written by Al Gore, produced by Michael Moore and directed by "Babs".

The real winners will be the lovely citizens of our fabulous city. The fabric of this diverse quilt will now be represented in law enforcement. It's about time there is a changing of the "Old Male Guard"!!!....Speaking of change, maybe this will lead to a changing of the old uniforms? Might I suggest a nice chiffon for those hot balmy summer days?

Sorry for bringing this up but we are so overwhelmingly accepting of one group but are now isolating another? We are now collecting data on Muslims? Why didn't we do the same thing agains those in trailer parks after the Timothy McVeigh attack? Why aren't we targeting isolated churches where those of phineus priesthood, Christian identity and countless others could be and probably are hiding? What disturbs me is the fact that we go so far, so fast and with seemingly such efficiency; only to make the same journey backwards. Honestly, every single group out there from peta to nazi and onto every religious affiliation known are potential terrorists. Why do we have to specifically target anyone? With that mentality, then we might as well focus on Hisbanic communities because of gang membership and illegal immigration, then black communities for gang membership and white neighborhoods for the same things. While we are at it, let's target law enforcement officers considering the current situation with Mike Carona of Orange County and Bernard Kerik of New York. Now, all these so-called extremist groups will do is simply move to outlying areas and lay even lower, all the while honing their skills while still continuing their plan(s). However, if we hit them hard and fast, then we will create more hatred.

I am a retired LAPD Sergeant and I can't help but feel so sorry, ashamed, and embarrassed for the department. Some folks would probably consider all these recruitment efforts courageous. I for one believe they are cowardly attempts to keep pace with a world that is simply rotting around us. If we take a stand for what is right and moral and good we may offend someone. Wow, what a concept. Hey, guess what...the truth is offensive to those who find no pleasure in it.

What a bunch of BS. Why don't we simply target, say...Qualified Individuals. Regardless of their sexual preference. I gues now every station has to be re-built to include: male, female, and "OTHERS" locker rooms and bathrooms. How embarassing. Taxpayers, this is how your city leaders spend your hard earned dollars!!
