Officer Fires Weapon Accidentally

Los Angeles: A Los Angeles Police Department officer accidentally discharged his duty handgun while searching a backyard.

On Saturday, January 5, 2008, at about 10:00 p.m., Officer Jorge Barrientos and his partner responded to a possible burglary call in the 700 block of Sarbonne Road.  While searching the backyard of the residence, Officer Barrientos slipped and fell, accidentally discharging one round from his weapon as he attempted to stand.

The round struck a wooden balcony and there were no injuries.

Force Investigation Division is handling the investigation.
