Los Angeles: This afternoon, the Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD’s) Deputy Chief Mike Hillmann announced his acceptance of a new position as Assistant Sheriff with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD).
LAPD Chief William Bratton supports and congratulates Hillmann on his new job. “Deputy Chief Mike Hillmann is a great credit to the Los Angeles Police Department” said Bratton. “For more than 42 years, Chief Hillmann has served the people of Los Angeles with courage, conviction and distinction. Chief Hillmann is a renowned national and international expert on emergency and incident management, and the Department will greatly miss his expertise.”
Hillmann was on the verge of retirement from LAPD when the OCSD opportunity surfaced. “It’s good news for the professionals in emergency and incident management that Chief Hillmann will continue to lend his considerable talent to the field despite his new position with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department,” continued Bratton. “I spoke with Sandra Hutchens on Monday and fully support Chief Hillmann’s decision to accept a position as Assistant Sheriff. While he officially retired from the LAPD in June 2008, Chief Hillmann’s plan was to pension with the Department utilizing the BOUNCE program, and he had another 10 months left with us. However, this new position with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department is a significant opportunity for Chief Hillmann. I am very happy for him and wish him all the best!”
For a full breakdown of Hillmann’s law enforcement career, his extensive resume is attached.
The Los Angeles Police Department owes a great debt to Chief Hillmann. He is known as the cop's cop...a man among the ranks that rose to a command level. He is never afraid to tell other command staff that they are wrong. He served as a leader, not only for the streets cops, but also for the brass. He stood up for what was right and backed up his officers when the Department hammer came down. I know he will be missed.

ALL,
Mike Hillman is the best of the best. Such a new endeavor brings forth an old school, but highly effective type of leadership. Orange County Sheriffs Office is truly blessed to have Mike as the their new Assistant Sheriff.
Respectfully Submitted,

When is this guy ever going to retire?
Not for nothing Mike, but enjoy your life and your family. Are things that bad at home, c'mon!
You should have retired when Bratton flopped you from OWB and your Gang Czar spot.
He then used you once the May Day deal went down.
Then you were going to become a scab/Bouncee and become an "at-will" employee once your DROP time topped out.
Now you are going to the OC to be another second bananna.
Unreal.

Well, I know where most of the real Cops on the LAPD can apply now.
Deputy Chief Hillman should have told Billy Boy Bratton to go pound sand a LONG time ago.
Good Luck Sir. And I might be seeing you real soon if we don't get a new Mayor and Chief in this next election.

Congratulations to Mike Hillmann on becoming Assistant Sheriff of Orange County. What will Chief Bratton and his weak management team do next time the dew hits the fan when Mike isn't there to bail them out? The LAPD and the City of Los Angeles have lost a dedicated and competent leader, and we can look forward to the mass exodus of qualified LAPD officers to the OC Sheriff's Department! Best of luck Mike.

I just cant see the Deputy Chief in any other uniform but our blues. It'll be wierd to see him wearing an Orange County uniform after 40 years of LAPD blue. Good luck sir.

DC Hillmann is one you'd call a "leader of men." He was the only one with the intestinal fortitude to step up after May Day and accept the hot potato. Good luck chief!
