Officer’s Gun Fires Accidentally at His Home
Los Angeles- An off-duty Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officer was cleaning his gun on August 4, 2008, when it accidentally fired.
LAPD Sergeant Ken Santolla was cleaning his gun at home, in a location outside of the City of Los Angeles, when it inadvertently fired. He has 29 years with the Department.
There were no reports of injuries or property damage. The Department’s Jail Division is investigating the incident.
Accidentally? Or Negligently?

How does a gun fire itself?

Oh here we go again judging away huh Jack? Let me get this straight, you're perfect right?
Why don't you put a sock in it and wait to find out? Hows that for an answer?Instead you get the bashing ball rolling with your little insinuations.I guess that makes for good drama.
This board is so brave to always throw the first stone before the facts are out. Now we'll have a whole two pages of posts bashing him and how he "gives other cops a bad name."
Why the hell are cops always so hard on other cops? Mistakes happen.Lighten up. You should all try to be a little more compassionate and supportive of eachother, like Line Reserve guy,and NO this isn't him.
I'm not coming back to this post. My psychic visions are popping up and I see three pages of trashing the poor guy already from other brave cops behind their keyboards!
No I'm not bitter nor do I have to take a lump of coal out of anywere, just sick of the bashing.

Guess we forgot to do that all important chamber check huh Sarge?

No such thing as an accidental discharge. I don't understand why the Jail division is investigating this instead of Force Investigation.
The gun may have fired inadvertently, but leaving a round in the chamber screams of a genuine lack of discipline and professionalism.
There is simply no way to sugarcoat such a transgression, despite the department's attempts to do so on this blog.

Who first posted this? Aren't AD's or ND's confidential investigations? And why would someone lay this guy out for an AD? Why is this even posted here?

Re: Sgt. Santolla's A.D.
Just a short comment in response to an earlier comment. I know this sergeant very well as a friend and co-worker. His discipline and professionalism are ABOVE reproach !!! I can't believe this stuff is on here. 29 years of exemplary service to the city and community. This I know personally.
