On Monday, March 2, 2009, Danny J. Bakewell Sr., Primary Center celebrated "Read Across America." This event is held in memory of the beloved children's author, Dr. Seuss.
In our effort to forge positive relationships between the school community and law enforcement, an invitation was extended to local law enforcement agencies to visit our school on this special day. Officers read to our students as they visited classrooms. Our goal to have at least one officer read to each classroom was met. We had a total of 20 officers present to read to the
students.
A special thanks to Chief William J. Bratton in his efforts to create more positive relationships with local communities. Also, a special thanks to the late Deputy Chief Kenneth Garner for making this event possible. And finally, a special thanks to the officers that came out for making this a reality:
