• Police Chief William Bratton was in Washington D.C. to speak on behalf of the Major Cities Chief’s Association in favor of a Crime Commission to a congressional panel. He is going to return to Washington on July 1 to speak on counter-terrorism issues.
• The verbal presentation by the Department and City Attorney’s office relative to Gang Injunction Guidelines was given by Mr. Bruce Riordan. Mr. Riordan stated the 2009 gang injunction guidelines have been finalized and are ready for review. Included in the guidelines is the incorporation of a removal process. The goal of the 2009 version was to make the injunction targeted. The injunction will be made publicly available.
• The Department’s verbal presentation relative to the change of uniform to be worn by retired police officers employed by private entities to provide traffic and crowd control at filming locations was given by First Assistant Chief Jim McDonnell. Chief McDonnell said the Department would no longer allow retired personnel to wear an active duty uniform. The issue at hand is the LAPD image, credibility and brand. A public safety type uniform will be available which is not similar in any way to uniforms worn by the LAPD, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department or the California Highway Patrol. Retirees will be allowed to wear a gun with ammunition, however they must have all the necessary permits.
• The Department’s report, dated June 3, 2009, relative to the Approval of Twenty-Fifth Amendment to Agreement No. C94580 with Northrop Grumman Information Technology, Inc. was approved and transmitted to the Office of the Mayor.
• The Department’s report, dated June 11, 2009, relative to the approval of First Supplemental Agreement to Agreement No. C-113412 between the City of Los Angeles and Serological Research Institute for Forensic DNA Analysis Services was approved and transmitted to the Office of the Mayor.
The retired cops won't be able to wear their uniform while they get paid $50 an hour to sip Starbucks while helping the film industry reinforce their own self-importance? A travesty I tell you!
Which makes me wonder, how much does it cost the taxpayers to have home motorcycles being driven to Palmdale, Santa Clarita, Simi Valley and Orange County etc?

At least the retired cops earned their hash marks working the streets of Los Angeles. The Chief added his because he is the Chief.

J Q Public. Let me address both issues.
The retired cops working the movie sets provide their own personal motorcycles. So they aren't the ones the tax payers are financing. No tax dollars involved. Have you not ever taken a break and had a coffee or soda while working, no matter how much you get paid?
The issue of ACTIVE motor officers and metro officers taking their vehicles home is a
definite advantage to the city and the department. They are immediate response forces who can respond directly from home to a major emergency or crisis. No going to a station in their own vehicle, checking in, dressing out, obtaining equipment and vehicles, then responding to the situation. They can be at an incident within an hour. YOU are the beneficiary of that program if you live in the city.

Can we all wear our uniforms off duty to make some extra bucks. That would be great off duty or retired.

Boy for all these decades I thought they were the police ready to arrest if I drove thru the blocked streets they were securing. Good to now I can now blow straight thru with out fear of being citied for a violation. Security guards have very little powers of arrest. I used to see them by the side of the road and slow down... What a shame the cat is out of the bag... Speeding thru movie sites will happen more frequently. Whats next are we going to issue them mopeds. Let's not talk about the firearms (tazers) might be the norm next. The Movie stars need to get involved and argue the point of high visibility and deterant on some of this high profile film sites. Making them look like common security guards will loose their impact at some film locations.
Change over to Marine Corps Blues... Blood strip and all..
Whats next...
Concerned citizen....
