Come on, Chief! Was it necessary to confess to Connie Rice that you now see the error of your past, and that you suffer remorse for the Department's prior misgivings, etc? Could it be you have your sights on the Mayor's Office next? You sound like an experienced Politico! Do you really have to pave the road so soon? Let's not forget that although you are getting a nice new raise and brand new sky-box like office, with infinite future political possibilities, the rest of us are getting squat for the next two years. Remember the little-guy on patrol when you begin to make your rounds throughout the Department. Take it easy on us when you try to sell us on your vision, direction, and level of remorse for our Department shaded history. I, for one, am not buying what your selling.

Although I am generally not a fan of Mayor Antonio Villaragoisa, I truly thank him for taking into consideration the moral of LAPD officers and naming Charlie Beck the next Chief of Police. My appreciation would also be given had he chosen Jimmy McDonnell, another top-shelf leader and a genuinely good person. A train wreck was definitely avoided by not naming Michel Moore! Best of luck Charlie and I hope you can find a position for Jimmy where he can actually command something and have more direct interaction with officers.
