Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department Northeast Division is taking pro-active enforcement efforts against drinking of alcoholic beverages in Dodger Stadium parking lot and the area surrounding Dodger Stadium for Opening Day, including Elysian Park.
On Tuesday, April 13, 2010, extra officers will be patrolling areas around Dodger Stadium and officers will be cracking down on all drinking in public violations committed by game goers.
In the years past, the tailgating and picnicking has included drinking of alcoholic beverages which has led to fights and traffic problems around Dodger Stadium. This year, Northeast Area officers and General Services Police will be citing and not warning individuals who drink in public in the park, the neighborhoods surrounding the stadium, and the stadium parking lot.
Additionally, fans will not be allowed to line up their vehicles in front of the stadium gates until 10 a.m. LAPD urges fans not to arrive too early as there is little parking available in the area surrounding Dodger Stadium.
For more information, calls may be directed to the LAPD Media Relations Section at 213-486-5910.

Why lie? You're in cahoots with Dodger Stadium to sell more overpriced drinks. Tailgating is part of every sporting event. You're all about money and not about safety. Gross.

Drinking has become a problem at sporting events as well as other types of events. Injury, fighting, and riots are a few common results. It is great that LAPD wishes to crack down on the drinking problem but I feel are going about it the wrong way.
It is impossible to say no more drinking and have people not get upset over it. What should instead be done is to give everyone over the age of 21 drinking tickets. For example when they come in the stadium, if they want to drink they can go to a booth, show their identification and recieve say 2 tickets, which translates into 2 drinks. Their name will be written down so they can not get more tickets.
This way you keep everyone happy. The vendors will not be losing as much money. The police will not have as many problems and it will not be a shock to the people. This is a solution they can appreciate.

Just curious, but what section of the Penal Code, Park Regs or LAMC were they cited for?
Last time I checked, the Dodger Stadium parking lot was private property, so therefore, the fans that were cited weren't "drinking in public".

It is sad to see that a true family tradition has been ruined when there is only so many left in L.A people spend hundreds of dollars each and next year when they dont show up like usual and when that happens it will be the police force who feels the pain from less revenue in the city

Are the LAPD officers who are enforcing ABC laws on private property (Dodger Stadium Parking Lots) doing so as part of their normal work day duties, OR are they working an off-duty/overtime detail? If the officers are on duty then I would highly object to my tax dollars going to pad the coffers Frank McCourt and his greedy soon-to-be ex-wife Jamie. If the Dodgers Organization is paying for the officers on an off-duty, overtime basis, then more power to them.

Kudos to LAPD for over 100 arrests of tailgaters leaving Dodger Stadium! Thank you for keeping the drunks off the road.. that was good work, and truly appreciated.

Yeah greeeat job! Way to ruin tradition! Tailgating is a part of opening day. Last time I checked Dodger Stadium is Private Property, so why were these approximately 132 ppl arrested for "drinking in public"?? Seeing as how the county and the city are almost bankrupt I hope that all the extra police was paid by Frank McCourt and that it didnt come out of our pockets, the very pockets of the people you arrested.
