Los Angeles – On August 3, 2010, the members of the Police Commission unanimously re-elected Police Commissioner John W. Mack to the post of President and Police Commissioner Alan J. Skobin to the post of Vice President. Commissioner Mack has served as a Police Commissioner since 2005 and has held the President position from 2005 to 2007, and then was re-elected in 2009. Under the City Charter, an individual may hold the President position for unlimited terms, yet not more than two consecutive years at a time. Commissioner Skobin has served as a Police Commissioner since 2003. He was first appointed to the Police Commission by Mayor James Hahn, and then reappointed by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa in 2005. He held the Vice President position from 2003 to 2007, and was re-elected in May, 2010, when the Vice President post was vacated.
The Police Commission now currently consists of President John W. Mack, Vice President Alan Skobin, Commissioner Richard Drooyan, Commissioner Robert Saltzman, and Commissioner Debra Wong Yang.
Commissioner Mack, the former President of the Los Angeles Urban League, thanked his fellow Commissioners, ”I am honored to continue as the President of the Police Commission. Collectively, this Commission has been the driving force behind some important accomplishments at LAPD, such as the installation of In-Car Video Cameras. I look forward to more accomplishments that benefit the diverse communities of Los Angeles.”
Commissioner Skobin is the Vice President and General Counsel of Galpin Motors, Inc., in the San Fernando Valley. He is widely recognized for his expertise in many areas of law enforcement, including efficient use of resources, officer use of force incidents, technology, employee relations, and community based policing. Commissioner Skobin stated, “I am once again humbled with this honor and look forward to working with my fellow Commissioners as we continue the significant progress that has been made.”
