November 24, 2024 - Thanksgiving Day is a day in which families gather and enjoy the company of each other and enjoy a savory feast. Unfortunately for many of our homeless community, the only savory meal they will have access too is the meal provided by Los Angeles Mission volunteers that donate their time and effort in making our homeless Thanksgiving a brighter one.
The spirit of Thanksgiving was evident in Chief Beck’s commitment to serving the Angelino community the eve of Thanksgiving Day. Chief Charlie Beck along with the Mayor, LAPD Counter Terrorism and Special Operations Bureau, Commander Blake Chow, LAPD Central Area, Captain Tom Chamberlin, elected officials, volunteers and celebrities put on their aprons and served hot meals to hundreds of homeless off the streets of Skid Row. Each year the Los Angeles Mission feeds over 1500 meals a day totaling over 600,000 meals per year. For this year’s event the Los Angeles Mission is expecting to serve around 3,500 meals.
