• Police Commission President John Mack stated he had the opportunity to attend a news conference with Chief Charlie Beck, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and City Council Members. The news conference announced the addition of video cameras which will be placed in Nickerson Gardens Housing Project in Watts. This addition is a continuation of a process originally initiated in Jordan Downs which has been very effective in aiding the residents in reducing crime and gang violence. This is a new development of constructive and positive working relationship that has developed between the LAPD and the community.
• Chief Charlie Beck commented on two significant events which took place this past weekend. On Friday night the monthly “Critical Mass Bicycle Ride” took place in West Bureau and Central Bureau. The event is a collaboration between the Los Angeles Police Department and the cycling community. The ride was positive compared to the circumstances from the previous month and no issues arose. The Department will continue to work with the cycling community to make it a safe event that is run legally with the right supervision from law enforcement. This past weekend 200,000 people attended the Electric Daisy Carnival at the Sports Arena Coliseum complex. This is the nation’s largest rave event and it resulted in more than 100 ambulance responses. Approximately 60 arrests were made, most of them for sale of narcotics.
• The Department’s report, dated June 18, 2010, relative to the Destruction of Obsolete Duplicate Records, was approved.
• The Department’s report, dated June 16, 2010, relative to the DNA Monthly Report for May 2010 was approved and transmitted to the City Council.
• The Executive Director’s Report, dated June, 24, 2010, relative to the Write Off of Uncollectible False Alarm Accounts Receivable identified in LATAX for the period January 1, 2025 through December 31, 2005, was approved.
• The Department’s report, dated June 18, 2010, relative to the Department’s Response relative to the City Council Motion on Revenue Changes and Specific Sources of Revenue Funds for the Fourth Financial Status Report, Fiscal Year 2009/10, Council File No. 09-0600-2303, was approved and transmitted to the Budget and Finance Committee.
• The Department’s report, dated June 18, 2010, relative to Topanga Area Gang Enforcement Detail Command Accountability performance Audit (IAID No. 10-001), was approved.
• The Inspector General’s Report, dated June 14, 2010, relative to Review of the Department’s Cash Management and Control - Unclaimed Monies Seized Account Audit, was continued.
• The Department’s Report, dated January 29, 2010, and Inspector General’s Report, dated June 15, 2010, relative to the Review of the Ethics Enforcement Section Quarterly Report, for the Fourth Quarter was, approved.
