Trio of Female Burglars Sought

Los Angeles:  The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Newton Area Burglary Detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying three female suspects whose images were caught on surveillance video committing a burglary at a Flower District business in the downtown area.

On October 30, 2010, at about 12:20 p.m., three female suspects entered a retail flower store located in the 700 block of South San Pedro Street.  One of the female suspects reached behind a counter and took the victim’s handbag while the other female suspects distracted the store’s employee.  All suspects exited the store and left in an early 2000 model silver or gray Nissan four-door.  Detectives believe the suspects may be responsible for several other commercial burglaries in the L.A. area.

The suspects are described as females approximately 30 to 40 years old. They stand about 5 feet 6 inches tall and weigh approximately 180-220 pounds.  Suspect-1 was wearing a light colored top with black pants.  Suspect-2 was wearing a black, brown, and white printed top with beige pants.  Suspect-3 was wearing a black top with pink jacket and pink pants.

$75,000 Reward Being Offered Two Brothers Killed and a Relative Injured

Los Angeles:   The Los Angeles Police Department is asking for the public’s help to identify and locate the suspects responsible for gunning down two brothers and a relative.

On September 25, 2010, just before 1 a.m., 24-year-old Jose Martinez, his brother, 20-year-old  Samuel Martinez and their 19-year-old relative, Marvin Gonzalez, were approached by two suspected gang members as they walked in the 2900 block of Division Street, in the Glassell Park community of Los Angeles.  The suspects asked the three young men about their gang affiliation and before they could answer the suspects fired several gunshots, killing both Jose and Samuel Martinez and seriously wounding Marvin Gonzalez.

The Los Angeles City Council has approved a reward of $75,000.00 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for these vicious crimes.

Police Ask for the Public’s Help to Catch Van Nuys Rapist

Los Angeles:   Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) detectives are asking for the public’s help to catch a man, who raped a woman in the 6800 block of Kester Avenue in the Van Nuys Area.  

On Sunday, November 14, at about 5:40 p.m., the suspect stopped his car next to a 22-year-old woman, who was walking on the street, and asked for directions.  When the woman refused, the man exited his car, grabbed her and pushed her to the ground.  The suspect physically held the woman down, choking her.  He then removed her pants and raped her.  

The suspect drove away from the location in a black, four-door car.  

The suspect was described as a 28- to 30-year-old, Hispanic male with short black hair and dark eyes.  He is about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs about 160 to 170 pounds and was last seen wearing a black t-shirt and blue jeans.

Police Looking for Pharmacy Robbers

Suspects Captured on Surveillance Video

Los Angeles:   The Los Angeles Police Department is asking for the public’s help to identify and locate two suspects responsible for robbing a Sherman Oaks pharmacy.
                                                                                                
On Nov. 6, 2010, at about 10:40 a.m., two men walked into a pharmacy in the 12900 block of Magnolia Boulevard and stole medication.  The first suspect entered the pharmacy alone and walked behind a counter where he ordered employees to the ground.  A few seconds later, a second suspect came in and removed several medicine bottles from shelves.

Both suspects are described as African American males.  The suspect who entered the pharmacy first was about 6 feet tall and weighed about 200 pounds.  He was wearing black pants, a black shirt with a white long-sleeve undershirt, white shoes and a black baseball cap.  He also may have had a goatee.  The second suspect was about 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighed about 140 pounds.  He was wearing a hooded, black pullover shirt, black pants and white shoes.  He also covered his face with a blue bandana, wore large, football-style gloves and a brown satchel over his shoulder.

Notes from the November 16, 2024 Weekly Police Commission Meeting

•    Police Commission Vice President Alan Skobin attended the 30 year pin ceremony held in the Ronald F. Deaton Auditorium at the Police Administration Building.  He added there was one recipient who had 40 years of service on the Department.

•    Police Commissioner Debra Wong Yang attended the Human Rights Watch Dinner held over the weekend.  She congratulated all who participated.

•    Police Chief Charlie Beck informed the Board the Department continues to maintain crime reduction numbers and added gang crime is down year to date 11.4%.

•    The Department’s report, dated October 29, 2010, relative to Ethics Enforcement Section Quarterly Report, Third Quarter, 2010, was received.  The Board directed the Office of the Inspector General to submit an analysis of this report along with any appropriate recommendations to the Board.

•    The Department’s report, dated August 16, 2010, and Inspector General’s report, dated November 9, 2010, relative to the Department’s Quarterly Discipline Report for the Second Quarter of 2010, as given by Inspector General Nicole Bershon and Commander Richard Webb, was approved.  Ms. Bershon informed the Board the review focused on alcohol related complaints.  She stated there were 13 complaints involving 17 allegations against 12 employees and all 13 complaints were sustained.  Ms. Bershon said the investigations were very thorough, complete and very well done.  She added she had issues on eight of the 13 disciplinary actions as the employees were given a Conditional Official Reprimand.  Ms. Bershon said the lack of written guidelines to see when a Conditional Reprimand will be imposed was concerning.  

•    The Executive Director’s report, dated November 10, 2010, recommending that the Board designate the Executive Director to conduct a hearing regarding Archer’s Vineland Service, Inc. official police garage contract (Agreement No. C107059) was approved.

Two 16-year-olds Hit by Gunfire One Injured, One Killed

Los Angeles:  Two friends walking in the 700 block of Gardena Boulevard in the mid morning hours on Sunday were hit by gunfire, leaving one dead and one injured.

On November 14, 2010, at around 11 a.m., Jose Davalos a resident of Los Angeles and a friend were walking down the street when a mid-size sedan driving eastbound came up behind the pair and began firing at them.  Davalos was shot in the head and transported by Los Angeles City Fire personnel to a local hospital in critical condition.  He was pronounced dead a short time later.

Davalos’ friend was transported to a local hospital by a private car, prior to the arrival of police and fire personnel. He had been shot in the leg and was treated for his injuries and later released.

The motive for this incident is believed to be gang related.

16-year-old Girl Missing

Earlier today Ashley Lynn Calvillo was located.  She is safe and in the care of her family.  



Los Angeles: The family of Ashley Lynn Calvillo and the Los Angeles Police Department are asking for the public’s help in locating Calvillo who has been missing since this morning.

On Friday, November 12, 2010, at about 7 a.m., Calvillo was last seen at her high school in Canoga Park.  Since then, she has not had any contact with her family.

Calvillo is believed to be with her 19-year-old boyfriend, Rudy Altamirano. Ashley’s parents feared that Altaminaro might have driven to Tijuana, Mexico with their daughter.  They are possibly in a 2001 White Ford Explorer, License Plate 4UUS599.

Calvillo is described as a female Hispanic, with black hair and brown eyes.  She stands about 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs about 164 pounds.  She was last seen wearing a black cardigan, blue jean shorts and black and white converse shoes.

75-year-old Los Angeles Woman Missing

Ms. Mosley was found during the evening hours of November 13, 2024 by the Whittier Police Department.  She was in good condition and was reunited with her family.

 

Los Angeles:  The family of Josie Mosley and the Los Angeles Police Department are asking for the public’s help in locating Ms. Mosley who has been missing since Thursday.

On Thursday, November 11, 2010, at around noon, Ms. Mosley and her daughter were at home located in the 10500 block of Croesus Avenue, Los Angeles.  Shortly after 12:00 p.m., her daughter left the home to run some errands.  At approximately 8:30 p.m., her daughter returned home, discovered that her mother was missing and immediately contacted police, family members and neighbors. Since then, she has not had any contact with her family.

Ms. Mosley is described as a female Black, with black hair and brown eyes.  She stands about 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighs about 140 pounds.

Veteran‘s Day Task Force results in Numerous Arrests

Los Angeles - More than 100 officers from the Los Angeles Police Department's Valley Bureau fanned out across Foothill Area in a two day task force beginning on Veteran’s Day.

On Thursday morning, in a massive takedown utilizing a multi-agency task force, law enforcement officers targeted parole violators and those illegally possessing weapons.  The goal of the operation was to make arrests of those violators who were knowingly breaking the law and contributing to overall crime increases in the Foothill communities.  Officers checked over 125 locations to conduct parole and probation compliance checks.

As a result of the task force operation, there were 47 arrests, 57 guns seized, thousands of rounds of ammunition secured and $4,100.00 in drug money recovered.  Additionally, Officers found two stolen vehicles and closed two chop shops.

This is an ongoing effort in Valley Bureau towards reducing fear of crime in a community.
