• Police Commissioner John Mack expressed his condolences to Inspector General Nicole Bershon and her family whose father recently passed away.
• Chief Beck expressed best wishes and prayers to Detective Rick Flores whose wife was severely injured this past weekend in an equestrian accident. This past Friday Chief Beck worked Central Division (Skid Row area) and noticed a lot of changes since he was a captain there in 2002. Chief Beck also commented on the significant progress in the downtown area and the role law enforcement has played in that process. Crime is down in both violent and property crimes throughout the city with the exception of homicides with a 4.3% increase compared to last year. Total Part I crime is down 12.7%. There are currently 9,918 sworn officers, 244 level I reserve officers, 27 level II, and 155 level III reserve officers. There are 1,020 volunteers, and 2,862 civilian employees.
• The Executives Director’s Report, dated March 3, 2011, regarding Response Relative to Police Recommendations Submitted to the Board of Police Commissioners by the Los Angeles Community Action Network (LA CAN), as given by Mr. Tefank was continued. Mr. Tefank reviewed policy considerations which LA CAN wants the Commission to evaluate and adopt. The policy recommendations submitted by LA CAN are to expand the SMART Team in Downtown Los Angeles, the creation of a community special initiative task force and to expand the ability of residents to provide commendations or misconduct complaints.
• The Department’s report, dated March 3, 2011, relative to the Department’s response to the Los Angeles Community Action Network’s Report on the Skid Row Safer Cities Initiative was approved.
• The Department’s report, dated March 2, 2011, relative to the Fiscal Year 2011/12 Proposed Budget was approved and transmitted to the Mayor and City Administrative Officer.
• The Department’s report, dated February 25, 2011, relative to DNA Monthly Reports for January 2011, was approved and transmitted to the City Council.
• The Department’s report, dated February 23, 2011, relative to the Department’s Quarterly Discipline Report, Fourth Quarter of 2010 was approved and directed the Office of the Inspector General to submit an analysis of this report along with appropriate recommendations to the Board.
• The Department’s report, dated February 24, 2011, relative to the Supply Procurement and Disbursement Audit (IAID No. 10-172) was approved.
• The Department’s report, dated February 24, 2011, relative to Vice Report Inspections (IAID No. 11-007) was approved.
