Chief of Police Charlie Beck provided crime statistics ending the week of Saturday April 7, 2012. Violent crimes are down 9.3% compared to 2011. Property crime is down 1.7% bringing the Total Part I reduction at 3.1%. Homicides and Rapes are up compared to this time last year. Gang crime is down Citywide by 23%. Attacks on police officers are down 40% compared to 2011. Officer Involved Shootings are down this year by 29%.
The Executive Director Richard Tefank stated there will be no Police Commission meeting Tuesday, May 1, 2025 due to plan May Day activities in the downtown area.
The verbal presentation and update was given by Commanding Officer Beatrice Girmala of Hollywood Division and Community Police Advisory Board (C-PAB) representative Mr. Minzer. They discussed community initiated problem solving, crime strategies, and other programs and goals within the Hollywood Area.
The Department’s verbal presentation and discussion, relative to the Los Angeles Police Department/Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles Community Safety Partnership Program was given by Deputy Chief Gannon. He discussed how the Los Angeles Police Department has partnered with the Housing Authority and the Advancement Project to go in the most difficult housing developments in the City and come up with a plan to address the problems. The officers are going into these developments to establish relationships with the community verses using crime suppression efforts. They believe the crime will drop in these developments due to the relationships the police will build with the community.
The Department’s report, dated April 6, 2012, relative to the Transmittal of the 2011-2012 Project Safe Neighborhoods Program Grant Application, was approved and transmitted concurrently to the Mayor and City Council.
The Department’s report, dated April 4, 2012, relative to the Transmittal of the Extension for the 2009 Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Technology Grant Program, was approved and transmitted concurrently to the Mayor and City Council.
The Department’s report, dated March 29, 2012, relative to the Biased Policing Update, Fourth Quarter and Annual Report, 2011, was given by Commander Richard Webb from Professional Standard Bureau. Commander Webb discussed how they completed a quarterly report and a year report regarding the biased policing personnel complaints and the finding of those reports.
The Department’s report, dated April 6, 2012, relative to the Rules Regarding Access and Use of Department Properties, was approved.
The Department’s report, dated April 3, 2012, relative to the Destruction of Obsolete Duplicate Records, was approved and transmitted to the City Clerk, Records Management Officer.
