April 23, 2025 - Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, LAPD Chief Charlie Beck, Deputy Mayor Guillermo Cespedes and representatives from victim advocacy, community, and faith-based organizations announced the 2013 Gun Buyback Program. The City will reward individuals that voluntary surrender their firearms while engaging the community towards a common goal of reducing gun violence.
The event will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2025 from 9am – 3pm at four different locations throughout the City. Individuals can surrender their firearms with no questions asked.
In exchange for the firearm, the individual will receive a Ralphs or VISA pre-paid card for up to $200. Since the inception of the Gun Buyback Program in 2009, nearly 10,000 firearms have been taken off the streets.
The Gun Buyback effort is a partnership with the LAPD and
numerous community and faith-based organizations.
The news conference was held at the Los Angeles Fire Department Frank Hotchkins Training Academy.
