On Friday May 2, 2014, Chief Beck joined advocates, public officials, and campaign donors to announce the groundbreaking of a new facility for the Stuart House program in Santa Monica.
Speakers at the groundbreaking included President of the Rape Foundation Gail Abarbanel, co-chairs of The Rape Foundation Capital Campaign for Stuart House actress Viola Davis and Cheryl Saban, and President, UCLA Health Dr. David Feinberg.
Stuart House is an internationally recognized, model program created in 1988 by the Rape Treatment center at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center to serve the special needs of sexually abused children and their families. Stuart House was deigned to improve the treatment of child victims and remedy serious problems in the traditional child protection system.
The Rape Foundation Capital Campaign is raising $17 million to build a new, larger facility for the Stuart House program and provide an endowment for program services. The new facility will double Stuart House capacity to provide state-of-the-art treatment for sexually abused children and house innovative, multidisciplinary child protection teams in a unique child-friendly setting. It will also include a new training center for victim service providers.
