August 7, 2024 – The graduation ceremony, featuring 27 graduates, was held at 8 a.m. in the downtown LAPD administration building plaza. Out of the 27 graduates, 25 were sworn for the LAPD, one was sworn for Los Angeles World Airports, and one was sworn as a security officer for the University of Southern California. All recruits have completed 920 hours of training over the course of 24 weeks and proudly stood before Department command staff, dignitaries and hundreds of spectators composed mostly of family and friends.
Attending on behalf of Chief Beck was Assistant Chief Earl Paysinger, Director of the Office of Operations and a 37-year veteran of the Department. In keeping with tradition, Chief Paysinger’s speech was the focal point of the ceremony and underscored the importance of LAPD officers always maintaining a steadfast commitment to integrity in their careers.
Recruits will go into action almost immediately as many will be deployed in the field at their respective LAPD divisions beginning as soon as Sunday, August 9. As always, recruits joyously tossed their caps into the air at the end of the ceremony, symbolizing the promise of success as LAPD’s newest officers.
