The public hearing on Chief Bratton's request for reappointment took place last night in front of a sizeable crowd inside the LADWP auditorium. The Police Commission heard public comments from citizens representing a broad spectrum of the Los Angeles community. The comments went on until all were heard- a total of 69- and the hearing was called to an end at approximately 10:15 p.m. The evening began with comments from elected officials who came to endorse the Chief, including Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, City Controller Laura Chick, City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo, Sheriff Lee Baca, District Attorney Steve Cooley and City Councilmember Jack Weiss. Community leaders, including former Police Commissioner David Cunningham, Los Angeles Urban League President and CEO Blair Taylor, Advancement Project Los Angeles Co-Director Connie Rice, Los Angeles Police Foundation President Karen Wagener, Los Angeles Fire Chief Douglas Barry, Los Angeles Civil Rights Association President Eddie Jones, and Latin American Law Enforcement Association Los Angeles Chapter President Art Placencia, among many others, were heard. Pursuant to the City Charter, the Commission has until July 27, 2024 to approve or deny Chief Bratton's reappointment.
Condolences to Sheriff Baca on the loss of yet another fine deputy, and to the LASD who have lost another brother, and to the family paying the ultimate sacrifice. I am deeply feeling your loss today. Yr friend,

I would like to know why nothing has been posted conecing the use of force last night at MacArthur park??? I would also like to know what the rack and file think of chief Bratton's statment " some actions taken by officers were inapproproate"?? Looks like lawsuite. This makes the L.A.P.D.
Look bad and will probably cost the taxpayers some big bucks.

We are fortunate Chief Bratton even wants this job. Sandwiched between a Commission hostile to law enforcement and entrenched management resistant to change, serving a city with courts so lax they are a joke, facing a hostile and rude citizenry at every turn; dealing with media who would rather create news than report it (yes, I mean yesterday when they had more than one hours warning to clear out and film from above and did not) and fighting a losing battle to hire enough officers because no one wants to work for a department where decent people are consistently set up to fail (yes I mean yesterday and the stupid decision to grant the permit in the first place and the call to stand down after the officers were physically attacked); all I can say is we are lucky to have anyone willing to take that spot who isn't just there to draw a salary and politik like the ones before him.

So the Mayor and Chief are disturbed by the television images of the Metro Cops doing their job in Mac-Park..
Oh Well !! You refuse to disperse, you will be moved !! PERIOD.. Maybe if the Chief had more than 3 years as a street cop, maybe he would understand the concept of crowd control. But I'm sure he'll address that in his next book.. Hey Mayor, since you're in El Salvador just have a Margarita and chill out !! Chief, I hope the Democrats get in so that you can get out !!!!!!

The chief is a New York Hack. Like most NYPD chiefs he will do any officer any time he can make himself look better in the eyes of the local liberals and dimocraps.

Why would you want to rehire this political hack? In fact, I would think twice before I even considered working for the LAPD as an officer. Who wants to get hung out to dry by a political hack like this Chief? He should go back east where they like this kind of a goof-ball.

The Police Protective league should sponsor a vote for the membership on whether we support another term for the Chief. It light of his recent actions concerning the May Day incident (his rush to judgement, his improper remarks, and most of all his obvious political posturing selling out his troops), and his support of legislation repelling the Copley decision, I think a vote of no confidence is in order.
