Elderly Man's Scooter Stolen

Los Angeles: A thief was caught on a surveillance camera stealing a motorized scooter.  Detectives and the elderly victim (82-year-old retiree) are asking for the public's help in locating the thief and the scooter.

In the late evening of May 16, 2007, the thief was hiding near the entrance to the victim's apartment's underground parking structure.  As a car was exiting and just before the security gate closed, the thief entered the parking structure.  He forcibly removed the scooter which was locked on the trailer of the victim's car and wheeled it away.

The thief was described as a Hispanic male in his 20's with a mustache.  He stands about 5' 7" to 5' 9" and weighing 140-150 pounds.

The scooter is about $1,500 and is the victim's only transportation.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detectives Jim Thornton, West Valley Detectives, at 818-374-7730.  On weekends and during off-hours, call the 24-hour toll free number at 1-877-LAWFULL (1-877-529-3855).
