Two Shot, One Killed in Gang Shooting

Los Angeles:  Two men were shot in San Pedro and one of them died during a gang related shooting.

On June 28, 2007, at about 9:15 PM, the two men were standing in a parking lot in the 1300 block of South Pacific Avenue. An unknown suspect walked up to them and fired several rounds with a pistol. One of the men was shot multiple times and fell to the ground. The other attempted to run away from the suspect, but was struck once in the left leg. The suspect ran away after the shooting.

The two men were taken to a local hospital. One with multiple gunshot wounds died a short time later despite medical treatment . He has been identified as Carlos Clavel, 29, of Los Angeles. The other man, a 24-year-old Los Angeles resident, was listed in stable condition.

The suspect was only described as an African-American.  The shooting appears to be gang related.

Looks like it's going to be a longgg summer... Don't forget to complete those FDR (racial statistics). Oh and never mind that majority of the shooting victims and suspects are Hispanics and Blacks. Dont stop to many of those races... God forbid you may be labled as racist.. Stop a white person or two if you see them wondering through South LA. Even things out. Thank you politicians.. Anyone in the dept ever going to grow a pair and say enough is enough?

FDRs indeed. Never forget them. I entered the police academy in the late 80's with the goal of performing honest and diligent public service. I've always been proud of serving the citizens of this great city, but Chief Bratton changed that.

I no longer work for the taxpaying public. I now work for auditors and bean counters. I call them the Minutiae Squad. They are those who cause thousands of wasted hours of paperwork every month because i's are not dotted and t's are not crossed. Never mind that the reports they flag are good enough for prosecutors to get a conviction, even under the scrutiny of defense attorneys, judges, and juries.

But that is not good enough for the Minutiae Squad. They know best.

When will the taxpayers of this city stop being suckers taken for a costly ride???

Maybe you could just attach a digital photo and a thumbprint and let someone in an office do the stats? I'm only half kidding...but civilians could do stuff like this, and answer the station phones before the automated answering system causes someone to drive a tank in the front door of their local station to rescue sworn officers from office work.

Hey citizens of LA... Just a bit of info for you.. You are getting short changed for your tax dollars. With the 9,500 cops that LA City has, majority are working inside job. Many are doing nothing but audits on things that dont need to be audited. Another 700+ are investigating complaints which are not complaints. I am sure you rather have those officers out on the streeet than investgating complaints where literally the person states the officers spoke in a harsh tone or a complaint where there gripe is nothing more than policy.. Wasting over 25,000,000 dollars a year on consent decree requirements, which is nothing more than a sham. That money can be used for equipment and new officers.

LAPD is the laughing stock of every other dept in the nation. No other dept in the nation is under the microscope like the LAPD is.. With all this monitoring, you woul dthink it would uncover "all this corruption".. Guess again. There is no wide spread corruption. The Rampart Scandal was a kneee jerk reaction where the bottom line is the only guilty person was Perez himself. At the end the dept ended paying out millions of dollars to officers they had accused of misconduct that were ultimately cleared. Commisioner Mack, trying supporting the LAPD once in a while,, I know that is a very hard task for you to swallow. When are the officers of the LAPD stop being held hostage and inidated with so much non sense on a daily basis from so many politinas and "community persons" who are only in it for themselves?

Isn't it amazing that we spend so much time and money just to investigate C.S. complaints, C. S. Use Of Force, and conduct mind boggling audits? How about let us use all those wasted resources to ACTUALLY combat and investigate criminal activities? Let cops be cops, not bean counters or desk jockeys.

Knee jerk reaction, yeah that about sums up Chief Bratton. He's just a politician blowing in the politican windstorm of LA. Look how many former ACLU slaps we have running this city. John Mack what a joke, Villareagosa...he's a clown. All that Mcarthur park hoopla over the fact that his girlfriend (reporter) got upset some fellow workers got clubbed for not leaving when told to do so.
