- Commissioner Skobin, who played a major role in the Department’s acquisition of new Astro XTS 5000 portable radios, stated that the Department has received its first shipment of nearly 700 of the much-needed radios. Commissioners Mack and Ordin each commended Commissioner Skobin for his efforts in shepherding this matter to its fulfillment.
- Violence between rival gangs over the weekend in Newton Area has required the allocation of additional police resources in the Area. Community members are encouraged to contact LAPD with any information they might have.
- The future agenda item pertaining to in-car digital video cameras is still in the Mayor’s office. This agenda item will be updated weekly.
- Captain Rich Wemmer, retiring after 37 years of distinguished service, was presented with a certificate of appreciation for his exemplary contributions to the Department.
- A verbal and PowerPoint presentation from Central Area Captain Jodi Wakefield and Co-Chair Blair Besten of the Central Area Community Police Advisory Board (C-PAB) regarding community initiated problem solving, crime strategies, and other programs and goals within the Central Area was accepted.
- The Department’s report, dated January 15, 2008, in response to City Council motion (Council File No. 05-0872-S2), relative to Department policy on participation in Drug Enforcement Administration raids of permitted Medical Marijuana dispensaries in Los Angeles, as discussed by Commander David Doan, was approved and transmitted to the City Council.
- The Department’s report, dated January 15, 2008, relative to a $250,000.00 grant application for the 2008 Internet Crimes Against Children State Augmentation Program between the Department and the California Office of Emergency Services, Law Enforcement and Victim Services Division for the period of January 1, 2008, through December 31, 2008, was approved and transmitted concurrently to the Mayor and City Council.
- The Department’s report, dated January 15, 2008, relative to a $113,107.00 grant application for the 2007-2008 Paul Coverdell Forensic Sciences Improvement Program between the Department and California Office of Emergency Services, Law Enforcement and Victim Services Division for the period of January 1, 2008, through December 31, 2008, was approved and transmitted concurrently to the Mayor and City Council.
- The Department’s report, dated January 25, 2008, relative to a Special Order entitled, “Organizational Performance Assessments,” as discussed by Police Administrator Maggie Goodrich, was approved.
- The Department’s report, dated January 25, 2008, in response to Board query, relative to Warrants Authored and Firearms Seized by the Gang Impact Teams, Fourth Quarter 2007 report, was accepted.
- The Department’s report, dated January 10, 2008, relative to compliance with Audit Division’s recommendations for the Warrant Applications and Supporting Affidavits - Recommendation Item Nos. IG-03, IG-04, IG-05, and IG-06, which was approved by the Board on April 10, 2007, was received and filed.
- The Department’s report, dated January 10, 2008, relative to compliance with Audit Division’s recommendations for the Supervisory Performance Evaluations Audit - Recommendation Item Nos. 4, 5, and 6, which was approved by the Board on July 10, 2007, was continued.
- The Department’s report, dated January 10, 2008, relative to compliance with Audit Division’s recommendations for the Arrest, Booking, and Charging Reports Audit - Recommendation Item No. 1, which was approved by the Board on January 8, 2008, was received and filed.
According to today's LA Times, when Britney Spears was taken to the hospital last night in an ambulance down Coldwater Canyon to UCLA, "her vehicle was escorted by more than a dozen motorcycle officers, two cruisers and two police helicopters."
Hopefully the LAPD will explain to the public why it has, once again, provided special preference to and wasted taxpayer dollars while coddling so-called celebrities. The LAPD brass constantly complains about how department resources are stretched thin, yet it can spare no expense when it comes to providing free private security and pampering to so-called celebrities.

I sure could have used this type of help when I had six officers one day to patrol 40+ square miles a couple months ago. I don't remember the exact date, only that it was the same day five officers from one of our administrative divisions worked all day to conduct a Property Receipt Audit. I guess I'm just not seeing the "big picture."
