Established in 1962, the Los Angeles Police Explorer Program provides special training to youth who are preparing for a career in law enforcement. The successful mentoring program assists recruits in becoming better citizens in their community, while fostering positive relationships between police and youth. Explorer programs are great. They teach young people about a possible career path, keeps them out of trouble, and most importantly teach discipline and responsibility.
I've always been impressed by the LAPD Explorers. I remember last year I saw the kids from Central working a race. Those young people directed traffic and runners and stayed at their assigned posts for a few hours. Very courteous the entire time.
These young people always look sharp and act professionally. They could be out doing something else with their time like other teenagers but they choose to do this instead. Great group of kids.
This should be a fun opportunity this weekend for the ones that get to participate in the radio program.

Every one of these Kids involved in the LAPD explorer program should be very proud of themselves! Their families and the citizens of Los Angeles should also be very proud of the commitment and sacrifice displayed by these kids. They show espirit de corps at everything they are involved in. Every time I see them running in formation at the station, interacting around the station or involved in vital community interaction I am so proud of them, and proud to be affiliated with them. Some of these kids escape gangs and other hardships and should be commended on the intestinal fortitude it takes for them to make this commitment.
For those of you that are not Police Officers and have not seen these kids in action, you should make an attempt to get involved. Even if it's a 1 hour question and answer meeting at your local LAPD division. Not all these kids want to be Police Officers, so your chosen profession might be of interest to some of these highly motivated kids.
I will just reiterate that I am proud of every one of the children involved in the Explorer programs and know they will all be very successful in what ever future endeavors they chose.
Keep up the great work Guys & Gals!
