Murder Suspect Arrested for the Stabbing Death of a 67-Year-Old Man
Los Angeles: LAPD Homicide Detectives arrested a suspect for the murder of a 67-year-old man, who was stabbed to death earlier this week.
On December 13, 2008, Wilshire area officers went to the 800 block of South Serrano Avenue to check on the welfare of a 67-year-old man who resided there. The officers found the man stabbed to death in his apartment.
Homicide investigators were notified and went to the scene. During their investigation, detectives conducted a detailed interview with a man, who was then arrested for murder. The suspect, 34-year-old Shawn Towne, a resident of Los Angeles, was arrested and booked for murder.
The motive of the murder is still being investigated.
The name of the victim will not be released until his family has been notified.

That is not quite the rendition I heard with regard to solving this murder and locating a victim. As I know it, Officers at another neighboring division arrested 2 suspects for a totally unrelated crime. One of the suspects casually told the officers some information that thankfully they followed up on and pressed further on leading to an eventual arrest on murder charges and a confession. Welfare check makes it sound like this was something stumbled upon when in fact it was a concerted effort of good police work. True or not? I would be curious to learn if anyone has anymore facts to shed on this one.
Be safe!
