I think that these crime reduction numbers are impressive and I believe that it can be directly attributed to the hard working officers and detectives of the LAPD. Everyday I have citizens asking me how much crime has gone up considering the poor economy and high unemployment rate. They are always amazed when I tell them that crime is down. Lets keep up the good work and continue to charge hard. Like I tell all of my P-1s, you don't do it for the Mayor or the Chief and you don't do it for your Captain. You give 100% everyday so that at the end of your shift when you look in the mirror, you are happy and proud of the officer that is looking back at you.

FTO. Wake up! How long have you been on the department? You actually believe those manipulated figures? How come we have citizens responses to "Crime is down" asking why it hasn't been reduced in their area yet? It doesn't take much to adjust reporting procedures and reclassify various crimes to throw out the smoke screen. You've been duped by the "New York" philosophy.

Gang Victim, I've been on the job for 10 years and I know that statistics can be manipulated to show whatever you want. However, as the one responding to the radio calls, I also know that the call load has been low lately so I tend to believe their numbers. I don't understand why it is so hard for some people to believe that we are actually doing a good job and accomplishing our goals.

OK, it's easy to re-name a drive-by at a house from "shots fired into an inhabited dwelling" to ADW or attempt murder. That crime doesn't show up on the UCR. I get it, and can see how a stat like that may get doctored.

But how do you account for the decrease in homicides? Medical technology? Or is there something to that "Numbers reflects a change in reclassification for Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) guidelines and numbers are adjusted accordingly."

What exactly does that mean? How were they reclassified? Anyone know, and has that helped with the numbers?

FTO. WOW, ten years. Two whole hash marks. I'm impressed. As long as you are handling fewer radio calls, you probably have the right to assume crime is down, at least in your division on your watch. Well if that's the case, maybe you should support the mayor in cutting the police budget. No need to have that many officers out there with fewer radio calls. Seems pro-active police work is not an issue anymore.

Let me be clear, I know the officers out in the streets have done a great job, one that most people wouldn't do. You, FTO, have done a good job, I'm sure. You are to be congratulated for you hard work. Yes, I'm sure some crime has fallen, but not to the point that the chief relates to obtain his personal political goals.
