December 7, 2024 – As part of the Los Angeles Times Exchange Series, new Police Chief Charlie Beck sat down with Times Editor at Large Jim Newton for a candid conversation on the Chief’s thoughts and ideas as the leader of one of the nation’s leading law enforcement agencies and what this change in leadership will mean for City residents. Set in the Harry Chandler Auditorium inside the LA Times Building in Downtown Los Angeles, community members, business owners, civic leaders and others listened in and contributed to the dialog as Chief Beck answered their questions.
Touching on subjects such as illegal immigration, politics, homelessness, medical marijuana, Department reorganization and traffic, Chief Beck offered his opinions and elaborated on philosophies. Members of the audience found the question and answer session very valuable and worthwhile as they came away with a better understanding of their new Chief.
The Los Angeles Times is celebrating their 128th year in existence and is the largest news gathering organization in the west. The LA Times Exchange Series began early this year with a discussion on what the Obama Administration would mean to Southern California. It has since held a discussion with California Governor Arnold Scwarzenegger on the California Budget issue with their third installment being the sit-down with Police Chief Beck.
