• Police Commission President John Mack and the entire Board of Commissioners held a moment of silence at the top of the meeting in honor of the late Los Angeles Police Chief Daryl Gates.
• Police Commission President John Mack, along with Commissioners Debra Yang and Robert Saltzman, introduced and welcomed new Police Commissioner Richard Drooyan to the Board and expressed their pleasure in being able to work with him going forward.
• Police Chief Charlie Beck said the Department is mourning the passing of former Police Chief Daryl Gates which marks the end of an era. He said memorial services are pending. Chief Beck added he attended a formal memorial ceremony for R.J. Cottle in Washington D.C last week and stated the service was spectacular and very moving. Chief Beck also appeared before the City Council last week where they voted to hire 90 additional Police Officers by June 30, 2010. Currently the Department has 9,921 sworn officers and 2,998 civilian employees, which is the first time under 3,000 employees.

Ms. Goodrich informed the Board testing on the system has gone well and the system has been in use by all gang officers at Southeast Division. Currently all officers at Southeast Division have been trained on the system and it is set for full deployment division-wide beginning Sunday, April 25. If the system, under increased use, performs well the next division to receive the system will be 77th. With regards to obtaining recorded video, supervisors must approve requests for copies and any copies of videos must be brought back and destroyed in front of a supervisor. Because officers will be able to view videos on the Department LAN system, it is believed there will not be a large number of requests for video copies.
