- Police Commissioner Alan Skobin announced the Latin American Law Enforcement Association (LA LEY) in conjunction with the Los Angeles Women Police Officers and Association and LA LEY Education Foundation will host their annual holiday party tomorrow evening. The event will start at 5:30 pm at J Restaurant and Lounge. Members of the Department are invited.
- Chief Beck updated the Commission regarding Occupy LA. He stated there was a break out demonstration last night in response to the actions taken by NYPD in clearing their park. A group of Occupy LA marched to LA Live then to Olympic and Broadway and back to City Hall. No arrests were made. Last week the Department had three sit down meetings with another meeting scheduled today with the goal of insuring Occupy LA can exercise their first amendment rights, while the rest of the City can keep their usual business and activities moving forward. The Department is working on sustaining a different location for them. City Hall’s south lawn is not a long term sustainable location. The Department wants to find some other way Occupy LA can exercise their rights, by finding another location to meet their needs and the City’s needs.
- Police Commissioner Robert Saltzman commended the Department for the extraordinary efforts with keeping the peace and exercising the appropriate restraint they have had. He has noticed in other cities that hasn’t been the case. The Department has learned from past experiences and from training on how to handle these incidents. He stated this is not happening by accident but because of the leadership and the training that is taking place.
- The Executive Director reported Tuesday, November 22, 2024 at 8:30 am they will have a reception for new Inspector General Alex Bustamante in the COMPSTAT room. Alex Bustamante will take office November 16, 2011. He also announced there will be no Police Commission meeting November 29, 2011.
- The Acting Inspector General Django Sibley reported they have completed an additional five public reports for Use of Force. He also thanked the commission for giving him the opportunity and thanked the Inspector General’s staff for their hard and professional work while he was there.
- The Commission President’s report, dated November 8, 2011, relative to Commission Liaison and Assignment was approved.
- The Department’s report, dated November 7, 2011, relative to the transmittal of the Supplement Award, Budget Modification and Extension for the fiscal year 2010-2011 Project Safe Neighborhoods Program Grant was approved and transmitted concurrently to the Mayor and City Council.
- The Department’s report, dated November 8, 2011, relative to the Transmittal of the Grant Application for the 2011 Intellectual Property Enforcement Project from the United Stated Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance was approved and transmitted concurrently to the Mayor and City Council.
- The Department’s report dated November 7, 2011, relative to the Destruction of Obsolete Original Records for Van Nuys was approved and transmitted to the City Clerks records and Management office.
