I love the race breakdown Chief. I thought all cops were only one color, blue?
I guess not...

Congrat's to all the new Rook's. Not that they or anyone else will ever read this. I wonder how many man hours and cost could have been put toward new equip. for these officers but was wasted on this Blog site. . .

Why are we going down through the break down of officers by race? I thought that LAPD doesn't care about race or sex, just as long as you hire the best people for the job. They are all BLUE!!!!! Don't discriminate.....

Depends on where you are coming from, I see no problem with the racial breakdown. In fact I think it is good for the cops and the public to be able to relate to one another. The public of different racial origin will feel assured when they know that the LAPD does not consist of Caucasians alone.

In feel that race and sex breakdowns just get in the way of what this is really about. The Graduation of young men and women who are willing to lay down their lives for us and their accomplishment of graduating from the police academy. Anyways if you just look around you would see that all officers aren’t Caucasians alone!!! I don't even remember when the LAPD was a Caucasian only police force. Lets not discriminate against anyone here, I don't care what race they are, just as long as they are the best and we don't get overly focused on race and end up with another Rampart... Good Luck Guys and make us proud of our Police Force…

This might be tough for you, but maybe you could actually think before you type.
There will be dozens of cops at the event. Armed cops. So what would the "cop haters" do? Heckle? Throw water balloons? There would be plenty of cops ready to bust them for disorderly conduct and the like.
"Too much information"? Who are you, Chicken Little?
I think it's an excellent idea to invite the public to this kind of event. Sure, probably few people will show up who don't know a graduate, but by extending an invitation, it opens the LAPD up to the public.
(On the same token, it would be good to publicize Police Commission meetings open to the public. How about that for a future blog news entry, editors?)

As an African American candidate I am extremely happy that the racial breakdown of the current class has been listed. I now do not have to wonder about what the class environment will be like. I am very pleased with the diversity of the class. Diversity is exactly what southern California is made of and I hope that the future class will have the same diversity as this class. I just completed my Psychological evaluation today and I am looking forward to working with each of you soon.
