After reading the LA Times dated 4/18/07, I found a small section regarding Police Commissioner Mack. The section briefly stated that Prez.Mack is encouraging the department to improve its ability to find officers who are racially profiling out on patrol. He states that no organization is perfect. Ok I agree with that. But why cant he just accept the fact that we, the blue suiters just don't base our contacts by race. We're driven by the info coming out of compstat. If he wants to make idiotic accusations, then they should be directed to the compstat process. I wish the citizens of LA would take the time to see really what kind of a person Mr.Mack is. Cause he truly has nothing but disdain for the officers of this department. Just do some research and see his comments about our department and officers while he was head of the Urban league. It was a great day when Parks left the department, it'll be an even better day when Mack leaves....

I agree with Boomer. He is rude to anyone who isn't out to get cops. His appointment was the worst decision the Mayor ever made, voters.

Boomer is right. John Mack has made a career of bashing the LAPD and it's officers. He was an unqualified and uneducated choice, at best! Just do some of your own research and you will see the past inflammatory commentary that Mack has said, especially after the Devin Brown shooting. How can someone pass fair and impartial judgement on LAPD officer's actions, when they do not have any real law enforcement training/experience and when they've made a career of slandering officers? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that the rank and file, the REAL Heros and Warriors of our City, may respect his rank but not the man!

I have worked for LAPD 20 years, the majority of it in patrol and am currently a watch commander. I also have concerns over Commissioner Mack's appointment to the Police Commission. However, whether we like it or not the LAPD has alienated specific segments of our population over the years and Mack has some influence in those segments. I am not just referring to race but also status and profession (legal), as well as the media.
Sometimes there is value in placing your strongest critic in your own organization so he can "walk a mile in your shoes." This may also temper that person's negative influence. I can think of other candidates critical of LAPD who would probably have been better selections, but it's not a perfect world.
I don't know if Commissioner Mack will ever be impartial but for now, we need to remember part of what got him there was our organization's transgressions. Regardless of the positives or negatives of any of our Police Commissioners, we all need to keep our focus on always doing the most professional job possible. Maybe next time the appointments will fall in our favor. Be safe.

We're always going to have a bad apple in the bunch. But let's not forget who let him through the door. The LAPD is becoming the laughing stock of the other agencies. We are destroying what we used to know as our core values, especially quality, leadership, and respect. These are becoming cliches and what you're supposed to say during promotional interviews. The only thing we are getting better on is how we've become the #1 gang capital of the whole nation. LAPD is, what our predecessors feared, going to be controlled by politicians. Mack did what he wanted to do, which is get into the central core of the Department, where he has the potential to do damage...or good.

All of these new recruits are fine, but there are not enough to train them. You have P-3's working with 2 and sometimes 3 P-1's, P-2's working with new Officers, and also new P-1's working critical spots such as station security and Parker Center. This is unacceptable.
