Why are people so surprised by this location? LA has been deteriorating as a community for years. We have precious little in the way of adequate police. Fire emergency resources are not keeping up. ERs have been closing left and right. I'm leaving!!

You said it! The city is truly deteriorating, patrol gets even more and more dumped on them every day and the condescending attitude toward the "Blue Suiters" by some of the the laziest people in the world, is not helping. Seems the goal is for everyone in patrol (who is smart, I have heard) to find a cushy inside job! What a weak department we are becoming but that matches in whole to the weak city leaders that we have acquired. The few that work are carrying the many who aren't, which makes the department another social experiment welfare program.... Great going!

If you take away many of the divisions, specialized units, commands, etc, you will still have a police force, although not a well functioning one. But, take away patrol and there is no police force. Unfortunately Patrol Operations serves as the labor pool for all else. There are half the number of officers working the street as there were twenty years ago and that's on a good day. It is not unusual to have 8 officers for 25-40 square miles. I have always found it interseting that no one on the City Council will simply pick up a phone, call the divisional watch commanders and ask for their deployment figures. It would take an hour and the picture of the LAPD priorities would become very clear. Is anyone willing to make 19 phone calls? How about 1?

I agree with you Bob Davis....so I ask, why are so many fully sworn officers riding a desk instead of working patrol?

The City of Los Angeles is very mis-managed because if who we have as a Mayor. Our Trash Collection fees have been raised for the SECOND TIME in order to hire more cops, but we still haven't seen more cops since the first time our taxes were raised to address this problem. Why are they being raised again?

The thought of beefing up the LAPD's seriously lacking Reserve Program wouldn't occur to anyone at Parker Center or City Hall because it's easier to just raise taxes...
